Mediation is expected to start today at the Labour Relations Board after the union representing about 150 workers at the Canada Line voted 99 per cent in favour of job action.
The announcement came on Jan. 8 with BCGEU treasurer Paul Finch saying, “we are committed to meaningful negotiations with the help of a mediator later this month. However, if mediation fails we are prepared to increase pressure to negotiate an agreement.”
The workers on the Richmond-Vancouver Rapid Transit Line include line attendants, station attendants, control room operators, administration, and staff in the wayside, electronics and vehicle departments.
The last collective agreement expired on Dec. 31, 2013.
