Stars come out for People’s Choice Awards

TORONTO — The stars will be out in Los Angeles tonight for the annual People’s Choice Awards, which honours fan favourites in all forms of entertainment.

Several Canadians were nominated, including Vancouver’s Seth Rogen (Comedic Movie Actor), Port Perry, Ont. native Emily VanCamp (Dramatic TV Actress), Hamilton’s Stana Katic (Crime Drama TV Actress), Edmonton’s Nathan Fillion (Crime Drama TV Actor) and Toronto’s Drake (Hip-Hop Artist).

Toronto-raised Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) will challenge Vancouver-born Kristin Kreuk (Beauty and the Beast) for Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress.

Katic and Fillion are also nominated in the TV Duo category.

Made-in-Vancouver series The Flash and Once Upon a Time are up for New TV Drama and TV Show respectively; Montreal-shot X-Men: Days of Future Past is in the running for Action Movie; filmed-in-Toronto series Suits has a nod in the “Dramedy” category; and Vancouver-made series Supernatural earned Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles a nomination for TV Duo.

Grey’s Anatomy‘s Dr. Cristina Yang, played by Ottawa native Sandra Oh, has a nod for TV Character We Miss Most.

The People’s Choice Awards are broadcast starting at 9 p.m. ET on Global, the host network for nominated shows like Chicago Fire (TV Drama), Constantine (New TV Drama), NCIS (TV Show), Bones (TV Duo), NCIS: New Orleans (Actor in a New TV Series), and Family Guy, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers and American Dad (Animated TV Show).

David Tennant, who starred in the B.C.-shot Gracepoint on Global, is nominated for Actor in a New TV Series.

People’s Choice Awards winners are notified in advance.

Ben Affleck will receive the third People’s Choice Award for Favourite Humanitarian.

This year’s show, airing live from the Nokia Theater L.A. Live, will be hosted by Mom stars Anna Faris and Allison Janney and will feature performances by Iggy Azalea, Lady Antebellum and Fall Out Boy.
