Fort McMurray RCMP treating fatal fire as homicide

EDMONTON – Police are treating the death of a 25-year-old man in Fort McMurray as a homicide after receiving autopsy results.

On Tuesday afternoon, a fire broke out at a mobile home on Grandview Crescent in Fort McMurray. Firefighters found the man’s body after the flames had been extinguished.

Wood Buffalo RCMP say the victim lived in the mobile home with two other men but was the only person in the home at the time of the fire.

It’s not known if the man was killed by the fire, or if he was already dead when it broke out.

The autopsy was conducted Thursday in Edmonton.

The victim’s name has not been released, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
