Strangers raise money to help Airdrie family caught in moving nightmare

An Airdrie family has received an overdue Christmas present they have long been dreaming about – all their possessions from a cross-country move gone wrong.

For nearly two years, Rainbow Oveson and husband Matt Ferdinand have been stuck in a dispute over money with the moving company. They relocated from Nova Scotia to Alberta, but their belongings stayed locked up in a storage facility after a business deal went sour.

The family had paid nearly $10,000 to the moving company, which was supposed to pay for a required storage unit, but instead took off with their thousands of dollars.

A group of Airdrie moms rallied together and raised $3,500 to pay the outstanding bill with the storage facility so the family could get all their things back.

“They raised it in 26 hours, not knowing me, and because of their kindness and generosity we have our stuff back,” said Oveson. “It may not mean anything else to anyone else but it means the world to us.”

Even Oveson and Ferdinand admit they’ve been waiting for this day for a long time and couldn’t hold back their emotions.

“My guitar…umm sorry….it means a lot to me,” said Ferdinand, fighting back tears. “It sounds silly, such a small thing … I am passionate about it and I could never afford to replace it.”
