Manitoba had fewer highway deaths in 2014 than previous year

WINNIPEG — 22 fewer people died on Manitoba roads in 2014 than 2013.

68 collisions resulted in 73 deaths in 2014 while 81 collisions resulted in 95 deaths in 2013 according to an RCMP news release sent out Monday.

Speed or driving too fast for road conditions was a factor in 56% of the fatal collisions and impaired driving was involved in 43%. The highest blood alcohol content found in people tested in 2014 was nearly four and a half times the legal amount.

59 of the 68 collisions in 2014 were highway crashes and the other 9 involved off-road vehicles.
