Team Canada eager to play Russians in gold medal game

WATCH: Team Canada’s star centre Connor McDavid told reporters he’s battling some nerves ahead of Monday night’s Gold Medal showdown with Russia, calling it the biggest game of his hockey career so far.

TORONTO – Canada can end its gold-medal drought at the world junior hockey championship when it faces Russia in tonight’s final at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

Zach Fucale will get the start in goal for Canada.

Canada, who defeated Slovakia 5-1 Sunday night to reach the finals, hasn’t won the tournament since winning its fifth in a row at the 2009 championship in Ottawa.

Russia won the last of its 13 titles – nine as the Soviet Union – in 2011, beating Canada in Buffalo, New York.

Sweden plays Slovakia in the bronze-medal game.
