Toronto man faces 13 charges after officer hit by fleeing vehicle

TORONTO – A 24-year-old Toronto man faces more than a dozen charges in connection to an incident in the city’s east end where police allege a plainclothes officer was struck by a stolen vehicle.

The incident happened Dec. 23, when police say plainclothes officers were investigating reports of a stolen vehicle in the Markham Road and Eglinton Avenue East area.

Police say the officers approached a vehicle parked at an apartment building and that a passenger in the vehicle surrendered without incident.

It’s alleged that the driver of the vehicle then drove away, striking one of the officers with the vehicle while fleeing.

The vehicle was found abandoned a short distance away. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Kirisanth Pathmanathan faces 13 charges, including assaulting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest, assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, theft of a motor vehicle and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
