WINNIPEG – Winnipeg’s projected deficit has shrunk from a forecast that was made earlier this year, due to lower salaries, cold weather and increases in photo-radar revenue.
City officials say the projected deficit has dropped to 6-point-1 million dollars at the end of November from the earlier projection in late September of almost 15 million dollars.
The updated forecast says the early onset of cold weather will likely save the city money by deferring roadway maintenance.
The report says the deficit is mostly due to higher-than-expected snow-clearing costs and dealing with frozen water pipes.
