HALIFAX – Firefighters from at least seven units were busy battling a blaze at a home on Windwood Drive in Middle Sackville that started during the noon hour on Saturday.
Neighbour Tim Miller noticed the flames while walking his dog, and asked his wife to call 911.
A homeowner was inside the house when the fire broke but was able to get out before fire crews arrived.
The fire caused extensive damage to the exterior of the home. Division Commander Corey Beals says while one crew worked to extinguish the flames on the outside and second floor, another crew opened up the roof to reach the attic.
“We made a quick aggressive attack on the attic fire. As a result of that, the structure is still standing and most of the home was unharmed by the fire,” he said.
A firefighter who was working on the roof sprained his knee, but Beals says it was a minor injury.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
