Elderly woman in life-threatening condition after multi-vehicle collision

CALGARY – An elderly woman is recovering in hospital from serious injuries after a multi-vehicle collision  in the southwest.

It happened just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday at 60 Ave. and 3 St. SW.

Police say a 2001 Pontiac Montana minivan failed to stop at a stop sign on 3 St. SW and plowed into a Dodge Journey approaching 60 Ave. SW.

That vehicle struck another car in the parking lot, pushing it into a fourth vehicle.

An 84-year-old woman who had just emerged from the parked vehicle was pinned between it and another vehicle. She was rushed to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

The driver of the Montana was not injured, while The 81-year-old driver of the Dodge Journey sustained minor injuries.

Investigators say it does not appear speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

Witnesses are asked to call police or contact Crime Stoppers.
