HALIFAX – The first baby of 2015 in the Halifax area was born to a couple from Seabright, N.S.
Caroline Sandra McLaughlin came into the world at the IWK at 12:57 a.m. on New Year’s Day to parents Jennifer and Craig McLaughlin.
“She was due January 5 but I went into labour [Wednesday] and she came pretty quickly,” said Jennifer.
Caroline, who arrived at 9 lb. 1 oz., is the third child for the couple. She was supposed to be due on January 5.
“It was a long night. We didn’t get much sleep. We got settled around 5:30 a.m. so she slept a little bit but she tends to cry,” said Jennifer with a laugh. “She seems to be cranky at us. She didn’t want to come out just yet.”
The parents said January 1 will now be extra special for the family.
“My husband wanted the New Year’s baby so he somehow got his wish,” said Jennifer. Husband Craig adds it had been a running joke in the family that the couple would have a New Year’s baby.
“We’re just excited she’s happy and healthy.”
