WILMOT, N.S. – RCMP in western Nova Scotia say a 58-year-old woman remains in hospital in serious, but stable condition following a collision between a horse-drawn sleigh and a car.
Just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, emergency crews responded to an incident involving a small car and a horse-drawn sleigh with approximately 20 people on board.
RCMP said the collision happened at Bayard Road and Highway 1. The wheeled sleigh with a driver and 19 passengers on board was crossing the highway when it was struck from behind by a car driven by a 25-year-old woman
Five adults who were on the sleigh were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. One person was transported by air ambulance to hospital with undetermined injuries. Cpl. Greg Church with Halifax RCMP said there is no update on the conditions of the five individuals.
There is no word on why the collision happened but RCMP said alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Church said it is too early to say whether any charges will be laid.
