HALIFAX – Police said they faced a busy New Year’s Eve with partygoers but note it was a “typical night” for them.

Sgt. Jeff Carr with Halifax Regional Police said units responded to disturbances at bars and several fights but he said there was “nothing out of the ordinary”.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“There were lots of people but no more or less than any other New Year’s Eve,” he said.

Carr adds that two people were charged with impaired driving overnight.

Halifax RCMP also note that four drivers were charged overnight with impaired driving with blood alcohol readings more than three times the legal limit.

One woman in Cole Harbour was charged with refusal while another driver in Lower Sackville was given a 24-hour suspension.
