Watch above: In case you weren’t able to make it out to Churchill Square Wednesday night, here’s the entire fireworks display.

EDMONTON — On what turned out to be a rather pleasant evening weather-wise in Edmonton, thousands of people packed Churchill Square Wednesday night to bid farewell to 2014 and ring in the new year.

The annual New Year’s Eve downtown festival was held in Churchill Square. The festivities got underway at 7 p.m., and included both indoor and outdoor activities, performances and hay rides.

The extremely popular Disney film Frozen was played under the stars at the plaza at City Hall. Other activities included ice skating and bannock-making.

Then, at the stroke of midnight, it was time for the main event: the fireworks! The spectacular show lit up the sky above City Hall, ringing in 2015.

“Excellent. Absolutely fantastic,” one man said of the display. “It’s totally overwhelming. We really enjoyed it.”

“It was the best fireworks I’ve ever seen,” added a young woman who was visiting Edmonton from Vancouver. “This was our first year but I’d definitely come again.”
