Teen critically injured when vehicle hits 3 pedestrians near Steinbach

WINNIPEG – A teenager was taken to hospital by the STARS air ambulance Monday evening after she and two other girls were hit by a vehicle west of Steinbach, Man.

She had life-threatening injuries but her condition improved to stable after she was airlifted to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, RCMP said. A second girl remained in hospital in stable condition with a broken leg on Tuesday morning, while the third was released, the Mounties said in a news release Tuesday.

The three girls were hit while walking along Highway 206 just north of Highway 52 at about 6 p.m. The other two youth were taken to hospital by ground ambulance, RCMP said.

All three are from Mitchell, Man. RCMP had previously said they were from Steinbach.

The driver of the vehicle wasn’t injured and alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, RCMP said. Police continue to investigate.

Steinbach is 50 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
