HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s police watchdog is investigating after a woman died in her apartment in Halifax on Monday.

The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is following up after Halifax police officers responded to the 39-year-old woman’s apartment on Tower Road after she threatened to harm herself.

Three officers entered the apartment, but the woman had already managed to harm herself. She was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

The Halifax Regional Police asked SIRT to investigate due to police involvement in the incident.

It is the mandate of SIRT to investigate all matters where police are involved and a person is injured or dies.

A public report must be issued within three months after the completion of the investigation.
