WATCH: Couple finds WWII love letters in attic

A recently wed couple has refreshed their romance thanks to a pillowcase full of love letters they found in their attic.

Andy Green found the letters when he was trying to unblock a dryer vent in the new home he and wife Jessica had just moved into in Lubbock, Texas.

The two quickly realized that the letters were from a soldier during the Second World War: Chief Petty Officer Dale Simpson of the U.S. Navy. They were all addressed to Virginia Sims.

Jessica organized the letters chronologically and started to piece the romance together.

“Twenty five letters in, he says ‘Marry me,’” Jessica told KCDB News.

The letters reflect the sentiment many soldiers felt during the war – fear, pride, longing and a lot of love for their sweethearts at home.

The letters stop in March 1943 and pick up in April 1945, now addressed to Mrs. Dale Simpson.

The Greens took to the Internet to try and return the letters to the couple, but found that they had died in the late 90s. Instead, they were able to connect to the Simpsons’ children.

After delving into this love story, Andy and Jessica felt especially lucky to have found each other.

“In a similar way,” said Andy, “I feel just as lost without Jessica as Mr. Simpson seemed to be without Virginia.”
