Extreme cold warning issued for Regina

REGINA – An extreme cold warning was issued for Regina on Sunday as wind chill temperatures dipped to -37 C degrees.

About one-third of the province was under the warning by 5:00 p.m.

In Regina, the cold didn’t stop a rare few from enjoying the outdoors.

“Sometimes her feet get a little cold and she doesn’t wear the boots very well, though, so yeah, she deals with it,” said Darrell Guthrie of his nine-year-old dog, Mara. The two enjoyed a walk through Wascana Centre.

“It’s Regina, this is what you’ve got to do. We’re tough here,” he added with a laugh.

Others took in the lake views a bit more comfortably.

“I’m just sitting in the car, nice warm car, just enjoying the sunshine and the scenery and the fact that we have sunny skies today instead of all that cloud we’ve had before,” said Nancy Smith in her parked car nearby.

At French Press Coffee and Tea Co., employees said the colder the weather, the more customers visit.

“Lattes are always really popular throughout the winter time,” said Kenzie Wiebe, a barista at the shop. “Lattes just taste good and, I don’t know, they’re just more comfortable to drink, I guess.”
