The controversial comedy The Interview can now be seen in the country where it was made.

Late on Christmas Eve, Seth Rogen tweeted the movie is available for download in Canada, a few hours after it was made available in the United States.

The movie, which can be seen here, was released by Sony just one day after reversing a previous decision not to show the film at all after hackers threatened moviegoers with violence. The decision not to release the film was widely criticized, with President Barack Obama one of Sony’s harshest critics.

Although the movie is now available for download in Canada, Sony has not explicitly made the film available for Canadian theatres yet.

“The film was shot in Vancouver, so we and so many in Vancouver would love to support our local talent, our local industry,” said Rachel Fox with Vancouver’s Rio Theatre.

The Interview, starring James Franco and Vancouver-born Seth Rogen, is centred around an interview with North Korea leader Kim Jong-un, and includes a scene depicting his assassination. The film was made in British Columbia last year, with scenes shot in Vancouver, Burnaby and the surrounding mountains.

For several days in late November, Vancouver’s Robson Square was transformed into the North Korean capital — complete with a giant statue of Kim Jong-un.
