Video shows homeless man giving away his sweater in social experiment

VANCOUVER – A video posted to YouTube shows a homeless man named Trench offering one of his sweaters to a young man who he thought needed help.

It was part of a social experiment by a duo known as ‘VanCityVideo‘. They posted a video online on Dec. 21 showing one of the duo going up to Trench in Vancouver and asking him if he needs anything. When Trench responds with “socks”, the man then comes back with some socks and a few shirts for him.

Then, later in the day, the other member of VanCityVideo, wearing only a T-shirt, goes up to Trench and asks him if he can help him out because he is cold.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Trench immediately hands over one of his sweaters, no questions asked.

The team went back on Dec. 22 to say thanks to Trench for what he did and brought him food tokens to Save On Meats, some bus tokens, money, more socks, jeans and gloves. He did not take all the shirts and sweaters offered, as he did not want to cart it around.

VanCityVideo hopes their videos inspire acts of kindness among others, especially at this time of the year.
