Children helping woman living with MS

Christmas is going to be very special for Sam Still this year, as a group of local children from Cardston have a special gift they have been working on for her.

Sam has been living with Multiple Sclerosis for the last 30 years. She needs a wheel chair to move around, but her home is not set up to accommodate her mobility needs.

“The conditions of her getting out of the hospital was that she was able to get an electric wheel chair, but it is a lot bigger and doesn’t maneuver very well,” said Randy Still, Sam’s husband.

A few children in their community – who are part of a group called Kids Can Change the World – decided to help them out. They are raising money to buy them a home just outside Cardston that is more accessible, and plan to surprise them with it on Christmas Day.

“It’s hard for her to move around and so we thought that making her a bigger house would be an amazing Christmas gift to her,” said Lily Parker, a member of the group.

The group has raised more than $12,000, but they still need $60,000 to be able to purchase the house for the couple by Christmas day.

Member Kalynn Davidson said the couple is very involved in the community and now it’s their turn to get a little help.

“They don’t have so much, but they still give to everyone around them. They are always serving and giving and I think there’s no one more deserving than them,” she said.

If they aren’t able to raise the amount they need, the kids plan to still give Sam and Randy the money to help renovate their home to make it more wheelchair friendly.

Randy is aware of the children’s plan, and cannot wait to see the look on Sam’s face. “They are quite a very special bunch of kids. They are truly amazing. There is so many other people that need help a lot more than we do,” he said.

As for the group, they are just thrilled to make someone’s Christmas a little brighter.
