Premier Wynne makes CNN list of most inspiring women

TORONTO – Premier Kathleen Wynne has made CNN’s longlist of the world’s most inspiring women of 2014.

Wynne was recognized for being the first female premier of Ontario as well as the first openly gay head of government in Canada.

CNN also points out she was “reelected” in June with a majority government. The June election was her first as leader. She was nominated by her party to succeed Premier Dalton McGuinty during a leadership campaign in 2013.

Wynne didn’t make the list of the top 15 women which was led Nobel Peace Prizer winner Malala Yousafzai, actress Emma Watson, and Fields Medal winner Dr. Maryam Mirzakhani. Wynne was included in the “longlist” of “further outstanding women nominated for their work.”

Some of the other women included in the longlist are Ellen Page, Angelina Jolie, and the director of the CDC’s influenza division Dr. Nancy J Cox.
