Calgarians come to the rescue of vandalized Christmas tree

The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Calgary with some people taking the time to save a vandalized Christmas tree in the Kensington shopping district.

Called the “Communi-tree”, it was erected on a corner in the area several days ago with a sign inviting passersby to decorate it.

But the community received a nasty surprise Monday morning: someone had knocked down the tree, damaging it.

It didn’t take long for some residents to get together to put it back up, using an old tire in place of the tree’s broken stand.

“The Grinch thinks he can wreck Christmas, but he can’t,” said one resident.

The Communi-tree is now standing proudly on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 9th Street N.W., waiting for more ornaments to brighten the season.
