WATCH: Thief steals scooter from Kelowna resident with osteoarthritis

KELOWNA, B.C. — It’s supposed to be a happy time of year, but for Megan Stevens, this holiday season has been anything but. The 55-year-old Kelowna resident had her scooter stolen outside of her work earlier this month, noting that the thief had cut off a chain that locked her scooter to a bike rack.

“Grinch stole my Christmas because it just took the spirit out of everything this year,” Stevens says.

She relies on her scooter because she suffers from osteoarthritis, a condition that limits her time on her feet.

“When I bought the scooter, I was able to go back to working five days a week because the knees are not stressed from walking on pavement,” she explains.

This isn’t the first time Stevens has been a victim of theft.

Her first scooter was stolen from her Rutland apartment complex last year.

RCMP eventually found it, but it was ripped apart.

With the latest theft, she feels disheartened and fears that without her transportation, she will have to cut back her shifts at work.

Stevens’ two daughters are trying to help raise money to get their mother a third scooter — and hopefully, her last.

“My Christmas wish is to have my mom have her scooter, and put her spirit and faith back in,” explains daughter Erin Stevens.

The daughters are raising funds on this crowd-sourcing site.
