WINNIPEG – About 100 Grade 6 students in Selkirk, Man., are asking people not to drink and drive – on liquor store bags.
Selkirk RCMP worked with the Grade 6 students to decorate paper bags for use at Manitoba liquor stores. The bags feature children’s drawings and messages such as “Be Safe” and “Call Operation Red Nose.”
It’s the second year for the program in Selkirk and at the request of Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, the number of bags created went from about 125 to around 300.
“The liquor commission loves then because their customers, they love them,” said Const. Paul Human, who spearheaded the project.
The bags not only reinforce a message to drivers, they also teach the kids they have a role in preventing crime, said Human, who has a daughter in Grade 6.
“Crime prevention isn’t a cop thing,” he said — it’s for everyone.
