Bank employee charged in Mission BMO robbery

Update: Kenza Belakziz pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery in October 2017. She has since been allowed a sentence appeal, reducing her 18-month term to six months, plus two years’ probation. On Nov. 8, 2018, she was released from jail. The deciding panel ruled, “[d]eportation or the threat of deportation would be a particularly harsh consequence for [Belakziz].”  Belakziz was at risk of being deported to Morocco with any jail term over half a year.

CALGARY – Police have charged an employee at a downtown bank in connection with a brazen robbery there last month.

Armed robbers targeted the Bank of Montreal in the 2300 block of 4th Street S.W. around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26th.

Three suspects fled the scene, but were later tracked down and arrested by police.

Investigators say bank staff had been locked within a room inside the bank during the robbery, and none were held as hostages.

On Monday, police announced 20-year-old Kenza Belakziz had been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery with a firearm and six counts of robbery using a firearm.

At the time, Belakziz was employed by the BMO location that was robbed.

She is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, December 23rd.

Police previously laid charges against 21-year-old Lucas Wayne Windsor, 21-year-old Saleem Obaid Nasery and 23-year-old Matthew Alexis Valdes.

They are charged with seven counts of forcible confinement and robbery using a firearm, in addition to one count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.
