Man charged after explosion at alleged meth lab in Brampton apartment

BRAMPTON, Ont. – A man is facing charges after an explosion at an alleged meth lab inside an apartment in Brampton, Ont.

Peel Region police Const. Lillian Fitzpatrick says the 31-year-old suffered minor burns to his arms in Saturday night’s blast, which damaged a wall but didn’t blow out doors or windows.

She says a woman was inside the 16th floor unit (on Silver Maple Court) at the time but escaped unhurt.

Gurjeet Kajla is due in court Sunday on charges of mischief endangering life and production of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Fitzpatrick says the floor remains under evacuation as investigators seek a search warrant to go through the apartment and collect evidence.

She says tenants will be allowed back once that process is completed by either Sunday night or Monday morning.
