Stoney Trail crashes slow Friday morning commute

CALGARY – Two people were injured in a serious crash on Stoney Trail on Friday.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Stoney Trail and 16th Avenue N.E. around 5:45 a.m. for reports of two collisions.

“Once police arrived, it was determined that both accidents were related,” says Acting S/Sgt. Thor Bahl.

Police believe a black truck was travelling southbound on Stoney Trail when it hit the back of another vehicle.

“That vehicle then continued southbound, crossed the median and collided [head-on] with a northbound vehicle on Stoney.”

Firefighters were forced to extricate both drivers from their vehicles.

EMS transported both victims, a man in his 30’s and a woman in her 60’s, to hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition.

The collisions caused the closure of northbound Stoney Trail at 16th Avenue, as well as lane restrictions on southbound Stoney Trail at 17th Avenue.

Police say they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.
