TORONTO — Rising star Ansel Elgort used Twitter on Wednesday to shoot down any speculation that he’s gay.
“Just in case it isn’t clear… I like girls,” the 20-year-old actor told his 2.4 million followers. “A lot.”
A few hours later, Elgort added: “Also let me say if I was gay I wouldn’t hide it. Being gay or straight isn’t bad or good it just IS. U are who you are. Be true to yourself.”
Elgort, who starred in the Toronto-shot Carrie remake and in the hits Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars, has signed on to play gay pianist Harvey Lavan Cliburn in the biopic Van Cliburn.

Like many young male stars in Hollywood, Elgort has been dogged by rumours about his sexuality — but it’s not clear why he decided to make a declaration.
