MONTREAL — As Pakistan began its three days of mourning in the wake of a massacre that killed more than 140 people, communities in Montreal rallied together to express their solidarity and condemn acts of terrorism.

At the Pakistani Consulate in Montreal, people passed by to pay their respects and sign a book of condolence.

“Everybody is touched by what has happened,” said Consul General of Pakistan Azra Jamali.

Students at McGill University organized a candlelight vigil Wednesday evening.

“The idea is just for us to have signs and light candles and to mourn and to pray together,” Reza Abbas Farishta told Global News.

Aside from the vigils and memorials in Montreal and across Canada, people around the world have taken to social media to express their sympathy for Pakistan.

“The black profile pictures represent the blackness of what has happened in my country,” said Aliya Ahmad.

“The tragedy is unbearable…it’s just unbearable.”
