WATCH: Christmas hampers distribution begins in Vernon

VERNON – The Salvation Army’s Christmas depot was a busy place Wednesday with many coming to pick up their Christmas food hampers and community ministries director David MacBain was right in the center of it. There are children’s gifts stacked on tables, piles of food and busy volunteers working away. MacBain describes all this as “lots of fun.”

“This is a day that we have been building up [to] for several weeks,” he says.

The hampers include food for Christmas day and gifts for kids and teens.

“I think we make it a pretty special Christmas for them and that is the whole idea of the whole program is to make it special for all the kids and all the families,” says volunteer Kay Schweitzer.
