Minister of Finance and Transportation, Roger Melanson, revealed $597.1 million will be invested under the capital budget, including a $114.6 million strategic infrastructure fund.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will see just over $400 million, most of that will be spent on improving deteriorating roads and bridges throughout the province.

The Department of Health will see $60.2 million, and Education will see $95.9 million.

“We recognize the need to plan over the longer-term as well. Work has already begun towards developing a 10-year capital infrastructure plan,” Melanson said.

Melanson said the strategic infrastructure fund will create “upwards of 1,200 jobs” in 2015-16. The 2014-15 capital budget was $555 million.
