Two people were taken to hospital after a three-car crash involving a police cruiser Monday night.

The three cars were travelling southbound on 144th Street when one of the vehicles stopped to turn left at 82nd Avenue.

A police cruiser was one car behind. The cruiser was transporting a prisoner, who said he was having a heart attack, and then immediately slumped down in his seat.

The police officer turned back to look at the prisoner, which is exactly when the car in front slowed down.

As the result, the police cruiser read-ended the vehicle in front, which then caused the second vehicle to rear-end the first one.

Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The police officer involved suffered a minor head injury.

Police say the prisoner is fine and was not having a heart attack at the time of the crash.
