The University of Lethbridge has announced it is shutting down its Edmonton campus. The Winter Semester 2015 class will be the last one admitted at the campus. The closure comes as enrollment numbers drop. In 2004 the school hit a peak with student intakes, and since then the attendance has been steadily declining.
“The number of degree opportunities in Edmonton changed dramatically. In 2009, Grant McEwan and NAIT started providing all the options for the sort of student we were attracting,” said Provost and V.P. Academic Andrew Hakin.
The University will help its current students earn their degrees through individual customized plans, like earning credits through work experience or international exchanges.
The closure is scheduled to take place over the next two years.
