KINDERSLEY, Sask. – The puck is ready to drop at the ninth World Junior A Challenge hockey tournament Sunday. Six teams from around the world will battle in 13 games for gold at the West Central Events Centre in Kindersley, Sask.
The United States, the two-time defending champion, will play in Group A with Canada East and Switzerland, while Canada West, Denmark and Russia battle it out in Group B.
The tournament opens Sunday with Canada East taking on Switzerland at 3:30 p.m. and Canada West playing Denmark at 7:30 p.m.
All quarter-finals, semifinals and the bronze medal game can be seen free via webcasts. Full-tournament packages are available and single-game tickets go on sale Sunday morning at the rink’s box office.
The gold medal game takes place at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at the home ice of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) Kindersley Klippers.

Since the first tournament in 2006, over 200 NHL draft picks have participated. This year’s Canada West team features some Saskatchewan talent, including Connor Hobbs, Rhett Gardner, Cody Young and Even Weninger.
The 2014 World Junior A Challenge will mark the return of the tournament to Saskatchewan for the first time since Yorkton and Humboldt hosted the inaugural event.
Seven of the eight championship games have featured at least one Canadian team.
