Pedestrian critically injured after being struck by CTrain

CALGARY- A young man is fighting for his life after he was hit by a CTrain late Friday evening.

Police were called to the rail crossing at 58th Avenue southeast just before 11 p.m. after reports a pedestrian had been hit.

Officers said the driver of the train attempted to engage the emergency brake when he saw the pedestrian trying to cross the tracks, but was unable to stop in time.

The 18-year-old was rushed to the Foothills Hospital  where he remains in critical, life-threatening condition.

The driver of the CTrain was uninjured and no passengers were hurt.

Police said the lights, barriers and alarms were all working at the time of the incident. They said Saturday that the pedestrian appeared to be inebriated.
