SASKATOON – Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory for the cities of Saskatoon and Regina as well as much of central and south-eastern Saskatchewan.

Near zero visibility in dense fog is expected.

Fog is forecast to develop Friday evening and become more widespread and dense by early Saturday morning before dissipating through the middle of the day on Saturday.

Light winds and high humidities are assisting in the development of the dense fog over much of the province and into Manitoba.

Environment Canada says it is important for those travelling to be aware that visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.

Weather advisories for fog are issued when near zero visibilities in fog are expected or occurring.

Following the fog will come a band of freezing rain that is expected to move through central Saskatchewan late Saturday afternoon into the evening hours.

As the atmosphere cools Saturday night, the freezing rain will transition to ice pellets and eventually to snow into early Sunday morning.

Expect possible freezing rain warnings to be issued through Saturday to warn the public of deteriorating conditions.

After multiple days of record breaking heat across the province, temperatures will cool below freezing this weekend before returning to near seasonal values into next week.

Be sure to check in with Saskatchewan’s Highway Hotline before heading out on the road this weekend.
