VANCOUVER – One person has been taken to hospital after a house fire in North Vancouver’s Lynn Valley neighbourhood.

The flames broke out early Thursday morning in the basement of a home on Rufus Drive. About 15 firefighters were called to the scene and were quickly able to get the fire under control. One person was home at the time and was sent to hospital with smoke inhalation.

Crews say it is still too early to say what sparked the blaze.

“They were able to access it from the exterior so it was a pretty quick attack,” said Assistant Fire Chief Mike Cairns from District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue. “They knocked the fire down in the first couple minutes they were here, and then it’s just a matter of getting through the front door and doing a room search.”
