EDMONTON – After spending five years working for the City of Edmonton, Lorna Rosen is quitting her post as chief financial officer to work for the province.

Rosen has accepted a position as Alberta’s deputy minister of education.

“It’s just an opportunity for me to perhaps get into a larger policy discussion and to perhaps [have] a little bit more input,” she says.

Rosen started working for the city as a general manager of public works, and has been CFO since May 2010.

City councillors say her presence will be missed.

“The city has I think benefited from her expertise and her wisdom, and we’re on a really strong position financially, and I think she’s been able to get us to some new places,” says Bev Esslinger, Ward 2 city councillor.

Rosen says the city will be in good hands because of a changing in resources and responsibilities.

“That’s part of the approach we’ve been trying to I think evolve here at the city where it’s not just about the general managers having discussions with council, but with everybody that actually makes the programs work at the city working with council.”

Rosen will leave her position in January.
