Blowing snow affects visibility on highways near Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – Blowing snow is affecting visibility on highways near Winnipeg and slushy, wet roads are creating a mess in Winnipeg.

Some warned drivers to expect a slow commute Monday morning as the work week began.

The Manitoba provincial road report showed partially snow-covered highways around Winnipeg and snow-covered roads in southeastern Manitoba. Visibility was reduced with drifting snow along the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 26 west of Winnipeg.

Light snow in Winnipeg is expected to end this morning with northwest winds of 30 kilometres per hour gusting to 50 km/h becoming light this afternoon. The temperature is expected to fall to -13 C this afternoon. Wind chills will keep the temperature feeling like -20 all day.

However, Winnipeggers can look forward to warm weather later in the week, with the temperature forecast to hit 7 C on Thursday.
