Fire breaks out at Spruce Cliff home

CALGARY – The fire department is reminding Calgarians that smoke alarms save lives.

Shortly before 8 a.m. on Sunday morning, crews were called to a home in the 3800 block of 3rd Avenue S.W.

On arrival firefighters found smoke billowing from the roof of the single-story home.

Two residents were awake inside and were able to escape, along with their dog, before fire crews arrived.  Investigators said they were alerted to the fire by sounds coming from the roof.

The fire was confined to the area of origin and no injuries were reported.

Fire investigators said Sunday that the home was not outfitted with working smoke alarms. They are reminding Calgarians that alarms should be installed and maintained in every home.
