KELOWNA–A freezing rain warning for most of the southeastern corner of British Columbia was in effect into Saturday afternoon.
Those warnings ended by early evening, with the exception of the North Thompson, North Columbia, West Columbia and Arrow Lakes-Slocan.
It doesn’t mean drivers are out of the woods quite yet.
According to Global News meteorologists, there is still a risk of freezing drizzle in the Thompson and North Okanagan early tomorrow morning. There’s also the potential for risky highway driving tonight and overnight, especially in the mountain passes as temperatures lower and wet roads ice up.
Road conditions were particularly bad on Highway 5 north of Kamloops on Saturday, with a number of trucks slipping of the road, particularly in the area past Clearwater.
“It’s absolutely treacherous,” said trucker Pete Musch, who was stopped for several hours.
“There’s no salt, there’s no sand, there’s no plough trucks. It’s raining, it’s minus 2, trucks in the ditch everywhere.”
Eventually, Musch was able to continue on his journey – but only momentarily.
