Identical Alberta triplets celebrate major milestone

EDMONTON – Mason, Thomas and Luke Low — brothers born with a rare eye cancer — are celebrating their first birthday.

A few months after the triplets were born, Mason was diagnosed with a condition called Retinoblastoma, a rare eye cancer that is most common in young children. The doctor then asked parents Richard and Leslie to bring in Luke and Thomas and the couple was told all three suffered from the condition.

The boys’ family has been travelling to Toronto for treatment. That is where they will all spend the big birthday on Friday.

The family says the celebrations will include some of “the amazing doctors and nurses who have cared so well for our boys this last year.”

Luke had his left eye removed on Wednesday. The Lows hope it will be the last major surgery the boys will have.

“We are very hopeful these boys will have a great future,” shared Leslie.

The family has received a lot of support from across the country, both financially and emotionally.

“We are so thankful for the kindness and support we have received the last year,” she wrote on Friday. “We couldn’t have made it through all this without all the support, and we hope everyone knows how much it has meant to us!”
