WINNIPEG – Premiums for car insurance will rise an overall 3.4 per cent effective March 1, the Manitoba Public Utilities Board says. Premiums for private passenger vehicles will rise 3.7 per cent.
The third increase in 15 years comes as Manitoba Public Insurance projects a net loss of $82.5 million in this fiscal year.

Rates for motorcycles will drop 5.8 per cent.
The average vehicle premium changes for various classes of vehicles are:
- Private passenger – up 3.7 per cent,
- Commercial – down 1.8 per cent,
- Public – up 6.2 per cent,
- Motorcycle – down 5.8 per cent,
- Trailers – up 6.1 per cent, and
- Off-road vehicles – down 14.3 per cent.
