WINNIPEG – Liquor Marts should stay open this holiday season after their union and Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries reached a tentative agreement.

The bargaining committee for the 868 employees represented by the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union and the Crown corporation agreed to a deal on Thursday night.

Workers had given the union a 97 per cent strike mandate.

The tentative agreement will be voted on by union members. Dates and times of ratification meetings haven’t been set yet.

Details of the agreement are being given to workers before the union speaks with the media, but it did post a news release on its website.

“When the employer tabled a final offer so close to the holiday season, which is the corporations busiest time and a time when Manitobans gather to celebrate with family and friends, we knew the pressure would be on our bargaining committee,” MGEU president Michelle Gawronsky said in the news release.
