Canada Post announced today that the postal code of 4,900 Delta homes will be the first in Metro Vancouver to lose door-to-door service.

Community mailboxes will go into operation in Delta in the fall of 2015 in the postal code of V4K.

The move to end door-to-door delivery was announced by Canada Post earlier this year.

Canada Post says that residents will start receiving information packages in the next couple of days.

No jobs will be lost by the transition to community mailboxes in Delta.

Canada Post says there will also be an opportunity for residents to give their input on the safest locations for the community mailboxes.

In an ironic twist, Stephen Gale of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says that two community mailboxes were stolen today in Surrey.
