“As of today The People Place have offered their basement to us so now we have a small kitchen…and a warm place for people to come in and have their three meals a day,” says fundraising director Lisa Anderson.

It is a welcome reprieve from serving meals outside in winter temperatures. Upper Room Mission were serving those in need outside in their parking lot. But with businesses and organizations stepping into help provide food and other support the charity never missed a meal.

In addition, all meals this week have being supplied by outside groups.

“It is such a big deal because we don’t have the space to prepare or store food right now so for those businesses to come in and provide meals for us is wonderful,” says Anderson.

“I’ve been around a long time and I’m not easily moved to tears but I’ve had a couple good cries with people stepping up and helping,” says executive director Rick Lavin.

There is still a lot of work to be done before they can move back to their original building. It is expected to be six to eight weeks before the dining room is ready, while work on the upstairs office space and women’s shelter is expected to take longer.
