Dog recovering after being shot in face

REGINA – They say cats have nine lives, but one lucky dog might have just used up one of his. Wilson the small shepherd collie cross is currently recovering at the Regina Humane Society after being shot in the face.

Wilson was found in an abandoned farm house near Lestock, Saskatchewan along with a mother dog and her eight puppies.

The young family were dirty, dehydrated and malnourished, but all of them were delivered safely to the Regina Humane Society.

Wilson had sustained a fractured jaw, as well as bullet fragments embedded on the inside of his mouth.

The Humane Society was unable to provide the dog with the needed surgery, so Wilson made a trip north to the veterinary college in Saskatoon for the life-saving surgery.

Wilson is now wired with a jaw fixator to hold his jaw bone in place as it heals. The plucky pup is being fostered as he recovers, and should be able to be adopted out within six weeks.

Despite his hardships, Wilson has come through it all with his winning personality intact.

“After all he’s been through, we have never met such a kind, gentle and faithful dog as Wilson,” Said Lisa Koch RHS Executive Director.

“With the severe cold, all of these dogs are very lucky to be alive. It’s a miracle really.”

The mother dogs and her puppies are also all doing fine and are able to be adopted from the Humane Society.
