After a few moments, with Grandpa still busy, the stroller containing a reported 18-month-old girl fell over a ledge – directly onto the tracks.

The Herald Sun reports that the girl fell on her face but only sustained minor injuries.

Seconds later, the grandfather and others rushed to the child’s aid.

The elderly man can be seen in the video lowering himself down on to the tracks to rescue his tiny family member. Within moments others rush to help.

One woman can be seen comforting a little boy – who the Herald Sun reports is the girl’s brother.

The victim was conscious and bleeding from the face, according to 9 News, and was brought to nearby Royal Children’s Hospital in stable condition.

Melbourne radio station 3AW reports the stroller’s brakes failed.

“We can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure the brake is on and to never look away,” Tait added. “It also shows how important it is to strap children in.”
