Two injured in Scarborough house fire overnight

TORONTO – A mother and a her son were taken to hospital after escaping a two-alarm house fire in Scarborough overnight.

The fire was first reported around 3 a.m. on Bethune Boulevard near Markham Road and Kingston Road.

Toronto Fire Services say the 26-year-old male suffered burns to his hands and arms and the female victim suffered from smoke inhalation.

Initial reports indicate the fire was started by a hair dryer used to keep a bed warm.

The fire was brought under control around 4:30 a.m.
